Adnan Khashoggi was a Saudi Arabian businessman and arms dealer with powerful influence during the 1970s and 1980s. He was involved in various arms deals, financial transactions, and political dealings that had ripple effects in several countries around the world. His dealings spanned multiple continents and affected both state and non-state actors.
Khashoggi's arms deals often involved U.S. manufacturers and military contractors. He facilitated the sale of U.S. military equipment to various countries, including Saudi Arabia and Iran.
His actions were tied to the broader U.S. arms industry, and his influence raised concerns about the ethical and legal implications of arms trading. The CIA, for instance, had dealings with Khashoggi, particularly during the Iran-Contra scandal.
Khashoggi’s connection to New York Financier and pedophile Jeffrey Epstein reveal clear involvement in counter-intelligence input in his operation. Contragate barely scratches the surface.
During the 1970s and 1980s, Khashoggi was involved in arms deals between Iran (particularly under the regime of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi) and Western companies. He played a key role in facilitating these deals. His involvement with Iran was significant during the Shah’s reign but ended when the Islamic Revolution took place in 1979. However, his legacy in facilitating military exchanges contributed to shaping the U.S. and Western stance towards Iran during the Iran-Iraq War and beyond.
His role in the regional arms trade sometimes intersected with Israeli interests, especially regarding the arms race in the Middle East.
Khashoggi’s dealings were also deeply connected to British arms companies, facilitating the en masse purchase of British military hardware through numerous Middle Eastern countries. His links to MI6 and British political figures raised eyebrows.
Khashoggi made Africa his playground.
Pulling numerous strings and using his influence he was able to continue to live an extravagant lifestyle, flying under the radar through most of his career. In 1987 TIME magazine featured a prominent story on Khashoggi, titled "Those Shadowy Arms Traders: Adnan Khashoggi's High Life and Flashy Deals". The same issue (January 19, 1987) reports on the Senate’s investigation into the Iran-Contra affair, in which he acted as a middleman.
